Horizon League 2009-10 Public Service Announcement

Members of the Horizon League Student Athlete Advisory Council participated in a service project at Forest Manor Multi-Services Center in Indianapolis. The outreach event was held in conjunction with the SAAC summer meetings, July 28-30, 2010.

Butler has claimed the 2010 James J. McCafferty Trophy as the Horizon League’s all-sports champion for a record-tying seventh time and first since 2006-07. The Bulldogs accumulated 51.5 points, a five-year league high, while securing three conference titles and two regular-season crowns. Butler also earns the Men’s All-Sports Award with 28.5 points while Milwaukee claims the Women’s All-Sports Award with 27 points.

No. 2 seed Milwaukee claimed the 2010 Horizon League Baseball Championship presented by U.S. Army. The Panthers defeated No. 1 seed Wright State 6-3 in the final contest of the event and earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

No. 2 seed Wright State (30-28-1) upended No. 1 seed Cleveland State (44-15), 6-3, in the final game of the 2010 Horizon League Softball Championship. The Raiders earn their third title in the last four years and pick up the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Milwaukee captured both 2010 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. The men captured their seventh straight title, while the women claimed their first since 2007.

Detroit completed the program sweep of the Horizon League Golf Championships as the men captured its fifth title in nine years, just two days after the Titan women earned top honors. Detroit finished the 54-hole event with a score of 875 (11-over-par) while Green Bay trailed by six strokes at 881 (17-over-par). The Titans earn the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships.

Detroit claimed its first-ever Horizon League Women’s Golf Championship at the Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky. The six-year old program totaled 943 strokes (79-over-par) while last year’s champion Youngstown State posted a 952 (88-over-par) for runner-up honors.

The 2010 Horizon League Tennis Championships concluded Sunday, as the Cleveland State men and UIC women won League titles. For the third year in a row the Viking men defeated UIC, with the match being decided by the No. 1 singles match. On the women’s side, UIC defeated Detroit, 4-0, in the Titan’s second-straight finals appearance.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Kailey Klein scored a game-high 23 points and #4 Cleveland State posted a 66-57 victory over #2 Butler in the finale of the 2010 Speedway Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship on Sunday at the Kress Events Center. The UIC women’s basketball game lost their second straight game and their fourth in the last five contests after falling to Valparaiso, 88-77, at the UIC Pavilion on Saturday.
